“Everything has beauty. But not everyone sees it.”     -Confuscius

My friend, Barry, has perfected the art of sitting still on the back porch with a handful of birdseed long enough for a couple squirrels to climb into his lap and eat out of his hand. He thinks they’re about the cutest creatures he’s ever seen (trumped only by chipmunks, which he also attracts in a similar way). I’ve got another friend who hates squirrels, calling them “rats with furry tails.” Who’s right?

Personally, I subscribe to Barry’s point of view. But it begs the question; what is beautiful…and who gets to choose? Are you living with the conviction that certain things, people, creatures, etc are ugly, negligible, or entirely avoidable? If so, whose decision is that? What if you could choose to rechoose? Imagine a world where nothing is ugly or unacceptable.

Cultivate the ability to choose your response to the things around you; to see treasure where there is only trash as Don Quixote says…and you’ll be rewarded with a more beautiful world and surprising contributions from unexpected places. This week, see more beauty and check yourself on your automatic habit of rejecting certain things. And then…expect MAGIC!
