Need energy?

“The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.”    -Carlos Castaneda

Every June, I perform hypnosis and magic shows for high school drug-free all-nighters. Driving there, I’m often exhausted and resistant. Yet when I hit the stage, I get a surge of happiness and energy that lasts for hours after the show.

Where does energy come from? How can we go from depleted and defeated to renewed and rejuvenated in a matter of moments? It should make you wonder, when you feel used up, if energy is really finite…or if it’s something you can call on when you need it…and if so, where’s the call button?

I assure you, you’ve got one. Through a remarkable alchemical reaction, you can turn intention and focus into boundless energy… Just choose to bring your whole and complete attention to the task at hand, and you too can feel the magic of unending energy!

Thanks Dr. Steve! Excellent post. Just the encouragement I needed today as I juggle multiple priorities and opportunities. Love the distinction about gravity vs. levity! When things don’t go as we intended some people get angry (grave) others laugh (levity) [kids at a magic show]. One constricts the other releases. Listening to you I realized that when we focus on not wanting to do things – we experience tiredness. When we are totally consumed with serving others – we are able to do what we need to. I don’t have kids and marvel how parents can stay up all night with a sick child and continually sacrifice for their offspring. I have come to the conclusion that you get the grace (ability) when as Dr. Steve mentioned you are committed to the task. I am inspired to just begin what I most need to rather than asking myself if I feel up to it. Finally – I applaud Dr. Steve’s efforts to be a positive role model for young people by using his talent and training in entertainment to capture attention and visually illustrate the importance of living drug free. What more important lesson is there for teens than to realize the awesome power of their minds? When focused on positive action they can move toward a better life rather than using narcotics to escape the pain of not using their potential, which leads to depression and loneliness. I appreciate the personal example he sets which lends credibility to his message.

Steve, First I love the dogs comments…The post on “needing more energy” is right on… When you commit to doing something there is alway an engery source that surfaces to aid us in getting through the task…. The problem comes when we let gravity(negative self talk) weigh us down thus making the task seem daunting. We get on a rather spiraling down system that sucks our energy. It is only when we focus and (levitate), and set a plan do we gain energy and to get the task done. Great post… common sense that is well worth repeating!
