Step By Step System To Success
The topic on my mind this week is energy, so I’m posting an excerpt from my book, Increase Your Mind, Increase Your Sales that offers some step by step instructions on using a SYSTEM to create consistent energy:
Given our tendency as human beings to be pulled off our paths, we need to develop and cultivate necessary strength.
Necessary strength is the psychological equivalent of muscle conditioning. You don’t go out and lift two hundred pounds without working up to it and creating predictable patterns of muscle function and strength. Similarly, you can’t expect yourself to remain calm, centered and unattached in the selling environment; cardinal qualities of the truly powerful and influential person; without having built up a set of mental tools you can rely upon.
How do you develop necessary strength? I recommend you take on a discipline. You need to have a set of rituals; a committed set of actions which call upon you to strengthen your mental resources on a daily basis. All the greatest producers in direct selling have such disciplines.
Strengthen Your Mind and Body For Greater Success
Step One-Five to seven minutes
Your alarm rings ninety minutes before you have to start your workday. You roll out of bed. You DON’T push the snooze button. You don’t even have to open your eyes. Just get vertical. Now, if you absolutely have to, go to the bathroom, but if you can wait, do so. Stand in front of a full length mirror and do the following:
- 20+ Toe raises
- 20+ Squats
- 20+ Crunches
- 20+ Push ups
- 30-second backstretches
If you haven’t already done so, go to the bathroom, wash your face, drink a full glass of water, take three deep breaths, and put on some seasonal outdoor clothing.
Step Two-Ten minutes
Walk half a mile or bike a mile during which you’re specifically forbidden to think about your day or anything not in your immediate presence. In fact, your task while walking or biking is to notice the beauty around you. You can alternate putting your attention on sights, sounds, smells, and sensations. Move briskly, breathe deeply, and direct your mind back to the moment, whenever it begins to wander.
Step Three-Ten minutes
Drink another glass of water. Sit in a comfortable chair and close your eyes. Allow yourself to relax for a few minutes and for your breathing to return to normal if you’re winded from the outdoor exercise. Now open your eyes and either do a sentence completion exercise (learn how in Increase Your Mind, Increase Your Sales) or write in your journal.
Step Four-Five minutes
Allow yourself to fantasize freely about what you’re going to create in your life. See it in your mind’s eye as vividly as you can. Look in magazines for pictures that represent your desires. Draw pictures of your dreams with colored pencils. Spend the entire five minutes painting pictures in your mind. A great resource is Amy Emme’s new site,
Step Five-Twenty minutes
Sitting in a comfortable chair, close your eyes, breathe slowly, observe your sensations, do a countdown induction, rest in your special place, visualize your success, rescript whatever you’ve discovered from your “realizing process,” rest a while longer, and count up to your waking state. (Some of these techniques are clarified in my book)
Step Six-Fifteen to thirty minutes
Now do whatever you need to do to get ready for work. Shower, dress, gather the things you need, etc.
Step Seven-Ten minutes
Make and drink your protein shake followed by a glass of water. Also, take your morning vitamins. Bring a couple pieces of fruit with you for later. Make sure to continue drinking lots of water all day long, at least a glass every hour. Avoid sugar and caffeine. Have fruit for snacks and a salad for lunch.
Step Eight-After work-Fifteen minutes
Review your day and organizing yourself for tomorrow. Fill out the daily checklist. (See the template in Increase Your Mind, Increase Your Sales) and lay out the game plan for your sales activities. Use your day timer to list everything you’ll need to do, and check off everything you accomplished that day.
Have a healthy dinner with lots of fresh vegetables, avoid television and read instead. A brief meditation can be very helpful before bedtime. Get to bed so you get eight plus hours of sleep.
By following this system, you’ll be insured of a healthier body and mind, and a more effective set of psychological resources to master your direct selling experience.
