I swear there are times when I’m sure I’m going to run out of things to say, and then lo and behold, a thought pops in that simply must be shared. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the power of thought. Is it possible that we really create our lives through our thoughts? Often it doesn’t seem that way, because our circumstances seem so random that we couldn’t possibly have had anything to do with them. But, do we really know what we’re thinking enough to be able to judge the effect our thoughts are having?
Scientists say no. We are, for all intents and purposes, blind to our most dominant thoughts. They play in the background of our consciousness, generating our moods and emotions, without registering on the screen of our conscious minds. They are, in effect, white noise. Our thoughts are to us what water is to a fish. Ask a fish where the water is and he’ll say, “Water? I don’t see any water!” We say, “Thoughts? I don’t see any thoughts!”
The net result (forgive the fish pun) is that our background thoughts possess us. They run the show. And they act on our environment in a very tangible way. Noetic science has now proven that thoughts are things, that thoughts have mass, and that thoughts influence the environment. Irrefutable evidence now exists that positive thoughts make us stronger and negative ones weaken us. Our thoughts can literally change the way ice crystals form in water as it freezes. Positive ones create orderly and beautiful crystals while negative ones create ugly and chaotic patterns.
Check Out UnHypnosis!I just read The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, and a lot of this stuff appears in that book. Toward the end, one character summarizes it all in a very profound way. She says:
”We kneel like frightened children, begging for help, forgiveness, good luck. But, once we realize that we are truly created in the Creator’s image, we’ll come to understand that we too must be creators. When we understand that fact, the doors will burst wide open for human potential.”
Take charge of your thoughts and you will create something beautiful in your life. Let your thoughts run amok, and you’ll create a string of unfortunate circumstances.
The art of taking charge of our thoughts starts with cultivating “the witness.” That means developing the ability to step aside from your thoughts and see them more clearly from without. Take the fish out of the water and he sees the water. Can’t see the forest for the trees? Get out of the forest and you’ll see it. Our salvation lies in our ability to make the unconscious conscious; to make the unseen seen. This is called “mindfulness” and it’s a pivotal step in our development.
If you’d like to learn how to become mindful, start by reading UnHypnosis and learn a system of tools to create a level of awareness that will give you access to the thoughts that are currently running your life.
