First, let me thank those of you who took the time to comment on my last post about being stuck in an anxiety-provoking thought-loop. I felt everyone’s comment had great value. Clearing negative energy through healing work and the use of mantra was very helpful. Considering how I might be subconsciously using the painful thought-loop to block success I wasn’t willing to claim was  illuminating, though more “heady” and therefore not as directly impactful. Perhaps the most useful bit of advice was Nancy’s; reach out to friends. That was the most immediately relieving strategy and one I’d recommend to others in similar pain and confusion. Again, thanks all.

Now, let’s talk about the “quiet winner.” This is the individual who has discovered that he who embraces silence to the greatest extent is in the best position to rise to victory in any situation. This should be of great interest to you if you’re competing in any way for any thing. Are you an athlete? Then you need to train your mind to silence or victory will be fleeting. Are you a sales person? Then you, too, must abide in silence or your mental chatter will defeat your efforts to win the sale. Or, are you a teacher, a health care worker, an entrepreneur, or a parent? Silence is still the answer!

No Mind

There was a great scene in “The Last Samurai” with Tom Cruise where he was learning to fight with a bo stick. Time and again, he’d attack and get knocked back down. Until the teacher came to him and said, “Too much mind! No mind! No mind!” Suddenly, Tom began to win.

What the teacher was conveying was that the instinctual responses necessary to claim victory are most effective when left to their own devices. Start mentally rehearsing your next move while in the line of fire and you’ll quickly find yourself defeated. But embrace silence, through diligent practice, and your body and mind will do exactly what they need to do when they need to do it.

So, learn your skill, master your craft, and then learn to become quiet inside. Become the quiet winner.
